About

Granfalloon is an open forum expressing the viewpoints of a diverse group of Muslim-Americans and their supporters. Contributers come from varying backgrounds but we all share a deep feeling of frustration with the world we live in, particularly with our Muslim communities. The desire to create a forum where we could express our criticisms felt necessary.

What author Kurt Vonnegut described as “a proud and meaningless association of human beings,” the term granfalloon refers to any group of people who outwardly claim a shared identity or purpose, but whose mutual association is in reality meaningless. The inspiration for this blog stems from that belief, in the sense that we seem to inhabit a shallow world of symbolics– the motive of action is showmanship, the intent contrived. It goes beyond the political and includes a myriad of social groupings and ideologies people choose to conform to, and associate with. Obsessed with what are essentially empty labels, we eagerly categorize our allegiances and neatly label our affiliations. Linked in name only, the many granfalloons of this world reveal nothing but air when pierced with the sharp needle of inquiry. Such issues and related themes are what granfalloon seeks to explore.

Granfalloon does not adhere to any one particular creed or set of beliefs, whether they be political or otherwise. All perspectives and opinions are welcome.

Peace & Love.

“If you wish to study a granfalloon, just remove the skin of a toy balloon.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
